Access Tivo Recordings Using a Web Browser
I recently learned how to access Tivo recordings via a web browser. This makes up for the lack of the Tivo Desktop software program for Mac OS X. The steps are pretty straightforward:
- Determine the IP address of the Tivo DVR, or the Zero Configuration (Bonjour) networking name of the DVR (mine was dvr-dc88.local).
- Open a web browser with the URL https://[IP address]/, or https://[bonjour name]/. The URL I used was https://dvr-dc88.local/
- When prompted for a username and password, use 'tivo' as the username and your Media Access Key (obtained from Tivo's account management website) as the password.
- Download any video content offered via the web interface.
- Use MplayerOSX to play any of the Tivo videos.

Can you also schedule a new recording using this interface?

Unfortunately, no. It would be great if you could! But it's possible to schedule recordings through the Tivo & Yahoo! TV websites. With a broadband-connected Tivo, new scheduled recordings are detected within about 15 minutes.
